Home Away From Home

One of the things that made my SEA-Teacher journey in Bengkulu truly unforgettable was the people who made the experience feel warm, comfortable, and welcoming from the very beginning. Through Universitas Bengkulu, I was able to meet local friends and buddies who helped me adjust not only to the university environment, but also to everyday life in Bengkulu. Whether it was accompanying us around the city, helping us communicate, sharing meals, or simply spending time together, their kindness made being far from home feel much easier.
The kosan where we stayed gradually became more than just temporary accommodation. After long days at school and university activities, it became a place where we could rest, reflect, and create memories together. I also feel deeply grateful to Pak Sugis, Mas Pambes, Ma’am Perti, and her family, along with everyone else who welcomed and supported me throughout my stay. Their generosity, care, and genuine hospitality made Bengkulu feel less unfamiliar and more like a second home.
Looking back, it’s the people I met and the relationships I built that remain one of the most meaningful parts of the experience. Beyond the programme itself, they were the ones who made my time in Bengkulu feel personal, memorable, and truly special.
